For the third consecutive year, the FC Amity Blue Lightning participated in the Sarah Parvin 24 hour Memorial Tournament. While the 24 hours of soccer is a great event in itself, the true spirit of the event goes far beyond sport. The event honors the life of Sarah Parvin, a vibrant 12 year old who tragically lost her battle with cancer a few years ago.
The event is held to remember Sarah and to raise as much money as possible to help others battling the disease. For the second year in a row the Blue Lightning set out to raise more money for the cause than they had the previous year. Their efforts included a bake sale, the sale of FC Amity magnets, family and parent co-worker donations,as well as the team's quarter can where money is collected for every goal scored. In the end, this group of 12 year old girls were able to raise $1,000.00 for the Sarah Parvin Foundation. This is in addition to the $900.00 the team raised a few months ago during the Daniel Boone Relay for Life event held at the Amity AC Soccer Complex. Congratulations to a special group of girls who have not only learned that teamwork on the field can lead to success, but more importantly, the contributions they make for others off the field are much more rewarding then any winning score could be.
