Sarah Parvin 24 Hr Soccerfest
The Lightning for the 4th straight year attended the Sarah Parvin 24 hr. soccer tournament. It is all in honor of Sarah, a remarkable girl who lost her battle with cancer at the age of 12. The team has donated more than $2500.00 over the last three years in her honor. The tournament gave three sportsmanship awards at the opening ceremonies. The first to a boy who played last year, battled an illness and was back again this year. Second to the grounds keeper who got all the fields ready for us to play. Third went to the Blue Lightning for the continued commitment to the event. They then set their sites on soccer. The team was split in two because of the small sided games. Having to play against each other in the first game, they battled and in the end the score was 3-2. It was the only loss either team would have the rest of the event. They went a combined 9-0-1 over the next 10 games to take 1st and 2nd place with their final game being played at 4:30 in the morning. While the kids played some great soccer in the end this was about so much more. For more info. about Sarah go to http://www.sarahsoccer.com/
