Welcome to Bainbridge Island Rowing

Bainbridge Island Rowing offers a variety of instructional, recreational, and competitive programs throughout the year, for both Juniors (ages 13-18) and Open/Masters rowers (ages 19-99+). All of the following programs, except Learn-to-Row, require club membership. Rowing fees and other requirements vary by program. For details, contact the appropriate program coordinator.

Juniors: High school students from all over Kitsap County are welcome in the BIRC Juniors program, new and experienced rowers alike. Junors row three regular seasons: Spring (February-May), Summer (June to early August), and Fall (September to mid November). For details, see News & Events. See the Documents page for registration and other required forms.

Masters Women: The Masters women row from roughly mid February through mid November. Masters Women: The Master Women are currently rowing Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 4:50 A.M. Some experience required, but need not be either recent or extensive. For further information, contact either of the coordinators, Jackie Syvertsen (jackie@windermere.com) and Barb Emel (bemel3@comcast.net)

Recreational Row: The Coed Masters Recreational Row will begin in 2008. Sessions will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Contact Jamie  (jkwalter@gmail.com) or Amy (amybuskirk@earthlink.net).

Masters Men: The Masters men are currently rowing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 and on Saturday morning at 8:00. All rowers with school, club, or college experience, or who have been through a learn-to-row class, are welcome to participate. For more information, contact program coordinator, Bill Richards at wrich33195@aol.com or 360-297-8281.

Learn-to-Row: BIRC offers sweep rowing classes from late spring through early Fall. Find the current schedule under Events and News: Register through Bainbridge Parks Department or contact Linda Desrosiers (lindad@pinchot.com) or call 206-780-1833.

Sculling: Although BIRC does not offer sculling programs, there is a largish contingent of scullers who row regularly on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7 a.m. To be added to the scullers' email list, contact Grant Dull at gdull@lynnwoodpfd.com . Sculling classes are also taught from time to time through the Bainbridge Parks Department (http://www.biparks.org/). Contact them or Udo Wald at Back of Beyond (udowald@earthlink.net or www.tothebackofbeyond.com).
