Junior Results at Youth Regionals
We have lots to be proud of. Take note of our capable junior rowers (Sam and Andrew will be going on to college this fall).

The double of Andrew Powers and Sam Hobbs was 5th in the Petite Final. This means they were effectively 11th in the country. Their race was very close. Steel City won, with a time of 7:26. Austin 2nd in 7:28. Conestoga 3rd in 7:31. Vancouver Lake 4th in 7:32. BIRC 5th in 7:33. And ORU 6th in 7:35.

Mikey McGuire won the C Final yesterday, making her effectively 13th in the nation. In a three boat race, Mikey's time was 9:18, Sagamore in 9:20, and Kansas City in 9:22.

Juniors going to National High School Championships
"The Bainbridge Island Junior Rowing Team sent a record thirty-nine athletes to the Northwest Junior Rowing Championships last weekend. Sixteen Bainbridge boats raced on Vancouver Lake from May 18-20. The Women\'s Novice Four showed that the young team has real potential by placing third in their heat, and gaining entry to the quarterfinals. In a very close race, the crew of Claire Thomas, Amanda Goss, Carolyn McCotter, and Haley Allen, with Alex Fredrickson as cox, was third by .26 seconds and failed to advance out of the quarterfinals. Alex is a rower, and stepped in at the last minute to cox the girls because their regular novice cox (Kobe Thompson) was on the water with the novice boys. In the Varsity Men\'s Double, seniors Sam Hobbs and Andrew Powers were second in their heat, and earned a place in the final. Unfortunately, the wind blew hard on Sunday and the final was cancelled, giving Sam and Andrew an overall fourth place based their heat time*. Junior Mikey McGuire won her Women\'s Varsity Single heat, and earned a place in the final as well. In one of the last races run on Sunday before a rising wind cancelled the regatta, Mikey finished third and earned a trip to the National High School Championships in Cincinnati June 8-10.\"

*Because their final was cancelled Sam and Andrew were able to petition to race at the Championships and yesterday US Rowing granted them their right and they will also be going to Cincinnati.

Good Speed to Mikey, Sam and Andrew!!!

ROWING INTRODUCTION By the end of this class, you’ll be able to understand coxswain’s commands; carry a boat with the rest of the rowers; adjust foot stretcher; put a seat on its tracks; set the boat; back and row the boat, understand the basics of rhythm, ratio, and slide control; begin feathering the blade; evaluate skills while riding in the coach’s launch. Classes are 90 minutes each. The first meeting is an orientation to the program and the remaining 8 are on the water. All classes meet at Waterfront Park.

Float test: All participants must have a float test form signed by a certified lifeguard. Forms are available at the BI pool desk. Ask a lifeguard to sign you off during any scheduled lap swim. Bring your float test to the orientation class (1st class). There is a drop-in pool charge for the test.
