CB South aiming for best season ever

Posted: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 11:20 pm

To the untrained eye, it would appear that Central Bucks South is having a very nice boys lacrosse season.

The Titans have posted a 10-4 record, a record any team would be happy to have at the this stage of the season.

But South hasn’t always had that level of success and has come a long way in a short period of time. The last time the Titans were this good was 2007, when they finished the season with a 14-6 record.

From 2009-11, South had exactly two wins. Former Central Bucks East assistant Mike Sharman came aboard as head coach in 2012, and the Titans had two wins after the first four games and three after the first six.

They finished 8-10 overall, 6-6 in the conference last season and are far exceeding that this season.

“This is four (wins) in a row,” Sharman said last Thursday, after his team beat Holy Ghost Prep 10-9 in overtime. “We haven’t won three in a row since 2005.

“I don’t know when we won four in a row. So this really helps our confidence. It helps the kids believe in themselves when they play a great team like (Holy Ghost) and come out on top and especially coming from behind. I think it really builds their confidence.”

South has gotten contributions from several players. Willie Pendleton, Tyler Strayline and Brendan McGrath handle the attack. McGrath has a six-goal game, Pendleton a five-goal effort and Strayline a four-goal game.

Tyler McGee, Tommy DiBrino and Jake Henze excel at midfield, while Tim McCrudden, Connor Bechtel, Kevin Witchey and Tim Ross lead the defense. Ryan Kelly has stood out in goal. He will continue his career at the U.S. Naval Academy and is just the second Titans player to be signed by a Division I program.

The regular season is winding down, and South’s first-ever berth in the District One tournament is there for the taking as the Titans could continue to make history.
