Central Bucks South 8 - North Penn 7 (Boys Lax)

Doylestown, PA (4/2/14) – Central Bucks South went out to an 8-5 fourth quarter lead and held off a late comeback by a determined North Penn team to win 8-7 in Suburban One Continental Conference Boys lacrosse action on Wednesday night at War Memorial Field. The Knights took an early 1-0 lead thanks to the first of Matt Brady’s five goals, but the Titan’s Jake Henze scored late in the first quarter to tie the game at 1-1. Brady scored again for the Knights early in the second quarter before goals by Anthony Paone and Brendan McGrath gave the Titans a 3-2 lead, but North Penn tied it at 3-3 on a goal by Scott Keffer. Facing off after the Knights goal, the Titan’s Anthony Paone executed a spectacular split dodge to finish up the first half scoring at 4-3. Knights goalie Chris Barr kept the game close with several great saves and a timely hit on a Titan shooter. The second half saw the Titans score again on the second of McGrath’s three goals to take a 5-3 lead, but Brady scored two in a row to tie it at 5-5. McGrath then scored his third goal of the night to end the third quarter with a 6-5 Titans lead. Leading off the fourth quarter CB South scored two, the first on a tipped feed from Joel Zimmerman to Jimmy Gallagher and then got their final tally on a man-up rocket from Evan Falkowski to make it an 8-5 game. Knights goalie Chris Barr remained hot and kept the game close as Brady went to work again, scoring his fifth to close the gap at 8-6 with 3:49 left. Jake Diamond then scored for North Penn with just under two minutes left in the game to make it an 8-7 nail-biter, but the Titans defense, led by Kevin Witchey, Kevin Uzelac, Tim Ross, Bobby DiBrino and Jason Sklenkar was able to hold off the charging Knights. Brady led all scorers with five goals and an assist, while McGrath had three goals and an assist to lead the Titans. Barr finished up with 17 saves for the Knights. With the win, CB South improved to 4-0 (2-0 SOL Continental), while the Knights dropped to 1-3 (0-3 SOL Continental).
