The Shakhtar finished the summer with its 4th consecutive undefeated performance to take the top spot in the first division of the August 2009 VE tournament. The quality of the team play was fun to watch with several creative goal scoring opportunities including several beautiful headers.
The Shakhtar went undefeated in the August 2009 CRUSA / FC Bucks tournament to capture the top spot in this event. The Shakhtar preformance included 5-0 and 6-1 wins and also a very well played 0-0 tie versus the 2009 EPYSA state champions, Upper Makefield Red.
The Shakhtar went undefeated to earn the championship in the August 2009 Spirit United Kickoff Classic's U10 Elite Division. The Shakhtar's performance included a 5-0W, 2-2T and 8-0W before defeating LDC United 3-0 in the championship match. It was another great team effort with lots of quality soccer.
The Shakhtar went 4-0 to win the 2009 Hempfield Fall Classic, competing in the premier 1 division. On Saturday the team defeated Montgomery United Arsenal 4-1 and also came back from a 3-1 halftime deficit to defeat Penn Legacy Black 5-3. The following day the Shakhtar defeated Hockessin 4-1 setting up a finals match versus Upper Makefield Red, the defending EPYSA state champions. The team walked away with a 2-1 victory in a match that was well played and hard fought by both teams.
The Shakhtar finished their U10 season with a great showing as finalist in the 2010 EPYSA Challenge Cup. The Shakhtar were one of 44 teams competing in this years event.
The Shakhtar advanced from a "Group B" with wins versus Fox Chase and PSC Dragons and a tie versus Penn Legacy Black. The guys then got on a roll with stong results against the Buckingham Blast and Lehigh Valley United (in the qtr finals). The guys had a tremendous 2-1 semi-final victory versus a talented PSC Celtic team, who knocked the Shakhtar out of the 2009 Cups. The team's "Never Say Die" spirit was evident throughout the match which was played with skill, speed and sportsmanship by both sides.
The finals were played in West Chester against another strong WCUSC team. It was another great match to watch but West Chester emerged on top with a 2-0 result.
The Cup completes a strong season in which the team was recognized as champions in the CRUSA/FC Bucks Invitational, the VE Father's Day tournament, the Spirit United Kick-Off Classic, the Hempfield Fall Classic, the UJSL Premier league and the Bux-mont indoor league where they participated at the u11 level. Congratulations to the guys on such a successful season.
The Ukrainian Nationals Shakhtar U-10 boys soccer team, coached by Gary Stephenson and Chris Noe, took the championship title in the U10 division in the 9th Annual Ukrainian Nationals Invitational Tournament. Shakhtar finished on top defeating Lehigh Valley United FC in the championship match scoring a golden goal in overtime to win 2-1. To advance to the title, the Shakhtar had great wins versus the North American United 99 Stingrays, Montgomery United Arsenal and Bridgewater SA Milan from New Jersey. The competition was great and In all games the guys played with skill, fire, unity, class and their trademark attacking, Never Say Die attitude.
